Acupressure Point Pc8 Lao Gong

Lao Gong (Pericardium 8), is one of the most powerful and frequently used points in acupuncture and acupressure.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is classified as a Ying-Spring and Fire point of the Pericardium channel, making it exceptionally effective at clearing excess heat from the body and calming the spirit (Shen). In Qigong practices it can be thought of mirroring Yongquan (Kid-1) on the soles of the feet.

How to Locate PC8 (Lao Gong)

Finding this point is very straightforward:

  1. Gently curl your fingers into a loose fist.

  2. Look at where the tip of your middle finger and ring fingers touches the palm of your hand. The point lies between the two, in between the bones.

  3. The point lies right in that depression between the second and third metacarpal bones proximal to the metacarpo-phalangeal joint, in a depression at the radial side of the third metacarpal bone.

How to Stimulate PC8 Using Acupressure

You can easily activate this point yourself to help calm down or re-center during a stressful moment:

Find a comfortable position: Prerequisite.

Sit comfortably and rest your hand, palm facing up, on your lap or a table. Relax your shoulders and take a deep breath.

Apply firm pressure: Duration: 1-2 minutes.

Use your thumb to press directly into the area. Apply steady, firm pressure. It may feel slightly tender or warm; this is normal.

Massage in circular motions:

Rotate your thumb in small, slow circular motions on the point. Breathe slowly and deeply into your abdomen to increase the calming effects.
