Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a traditional East Asian therapy that originated in China and is still practised today as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A trained acupuncturist inserts very fine needles into specific points on the body to relieve pain and restore balance.

A note on "dry needling": this is a technique sometimes offered by practitioners without full acupuncture training. Because it skips the broader diagnostic approach, it's worth checking a practitioner's qualifications before booking.

NHS-recognised: The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends acupuncture for migraines, tension headaches, and back pain.

Benefits of Acupuncture

Arthritis, sports injuries, and joint or back pain

  1. Skin conditions, hay fever, and digestive disorders

  2. PMS, and heavy or painful periods

  3. Headaches and migraines

  4. Anxiety and stress-related conditions

  5. Reproductive health concerns, for both men and women

It has also been endorsed by the NHS, World Health Organization (WHO), National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) for certain conditions. Links to the research evidence for acupuncture can be found at Evidence Based Acupuncture.
