Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an East Asian Health System derived from China. Traditional Chinese Medicine is how acupuncture is practiced today in China. Five element acupuncture harks back to an earlier time. It relies on diagnosis related to colour, sound emotion and odor. The five elements are Fire (Summer), Earth (Harvest Time), Metal (Autumn), Water (Winter) and Wood (Spring). In acupuncture very fine needles are inserted into specific points on the bosy and manipulated to get the desired result. This is some sort of sesnsation or ache but not pain.

In the hands of a fully trained acupuncturist, using one use sterile needles acupuncture is safe. Beware dry needling which is acupuncture from a poorly trained practitioner. There is general agreement that acupuncture is safe when administered by well-trained practitioners using sterile needles and this carries a very low risk of serious adverse effects. These practitioners will have Lic Ac, after their name. This is the professional qualification for acupuncturists.

NICE recommends Acupuncture for Migraines, Headaches and Back Pain.
